Since the killing of 13 Palestinian citizens of Israel last October by Israel's security forces feelings have been running very high and there is much tension between the Palestinian and Jewish communities. The security forces were warned by Arab leaders not to police the demonstration as this would be both provocative and an incitement to trouble. Fortunately for once they listened and I only saw a couple of police cars stationed a few miles outside of the town, and a helicopter buzzing overhead throughout the whole event.
